Gruppo Cordenons’ Environmental Initiatives
Cordenons is FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) by the Swiss Association for Quality and Management Systems both as a manufacturer, and through certified chain of custody.
Our North American division is FSC Certified through Scientific Certification Systems for chain of custody.
Cordenons is a charter member of UNESCO’s “Trust the Forest” program. More than 4,000 hectares (about 10,000 acres) of virgin African forest has been permanently protected under a United Nations-sponsored project to safeguard the Ipassa-Mingouli forest from deforestation and illegal timbering.
Cordenons has partnered with Turin University, Italy to operate the Saussurea Alpine Garden Foundation as a research and teaching center. The park is located 7,200 feet (2200 meters) above sea level in the Valle D’Aosta region of Northwestern Italy. The foundation combines scientific research with a strong public awareness program to manage this unique area of the Italian Alps.
All Gruppo Cordenons’ products are recyclable and more than 80% of our cellulose comes from either ISO 14001 or FSC-certified companies, to guarantee our pulp comes only from responsibly-managed forests.
100% of our Italian mills’ energy needs are met from clean-burning natural gas.
All of Cordenons’ products are manufactured in an ECF environment (Elemental Chlorine-Free).
Many of Cordenons’ grades are manufactured with alternative fibers. For example, our So…Wool grade is made with a combination of up to 25% wool, cotton, and ECF fiber; our Canaletto is made with up to 20% cotton in a neutral base; and some products are made with post-consumer waste as well.
Most Cordenons’ products are acid free, pH neutral, archival in quality, and utilize ECF/TCF pulp. Our products are certified heavy-metal-free.
